It was end of 1991 when the Delta Integrale Evo 1 was introduced as a further development of the very successful Integrale 16v. It was the last so called homologation model, a minimum production rule of road versions to compete in the Group A WRC rally championships. Although the Lancia factory team officially by then withdrawed from the rally championship it still supported the private owned ‘Jolly Club Team’ in 1992 to win its 6th consecutive title.
Nowadays the Lancia Delta Integrale is still recognised as one of the most iconic cars produced. The later produced Evo version (1991-1994) are the most developed Integrale’s bringing a wealth of Group A rally success and innovation together in what could be called the ultimate road car in terms of handling. The Evo 1 (16v without Catalyst 1991-1993) had 210 Bhp/ 298 Nm and was further modified functionally in many areas as chassis, wheelbase, brakes and more. A true ‘evolution’ of the already so clever built Integrale 8v and 16v. Even against today’s standards the handling and mechanical grip of the Evo’s is mindblowing. You simply have to experience it.
For some the Evo 1 was the last true connection of the car to its rally history (Evo 2 officially never rallied in Group A and was not a homologation model). Nowadays its not easy to find a solid, standard and well maintained Evo version. Once in a while between cars offered with silly modifications, lack of any history, rust, accident repairs and more a great example comes up like this Evo 1 we can offer again at Modern Classics Automotive.
This Evo 1 was originally delivered in Japan back in 1993 and we purchased this Deltona direct at a garage (so this is not an auction car!) and imported it ourselves. The way this Delta is kept fairly standard, being an EU spec car and being very clean/ well maintained made us decide to have this car joining our collection which is now available.
We even have received a factory ‘certificat of originality’ from Torino Italy for this car and is ofcourse included.
The body of this Evo 1 is straight and absolutely no rust, chassis cracks or accident repairs on the obvious places. As many of the Rosso Monza coloured cars this Evo 1 has been repainted in the past to ensure the deep original red colour stays in good shape. In general this Evo 1 has minimum wear and tear for a car this age which tells something about its previous ownership. This Evo 1 comes with the EU headlights and side blinkers. All body parts, glass around, blinkers are original Lancia parts. No replica parts used on this car! Underneath the Delta is amazingly clean and original which makes it a very transparent example -pictures included. The Evo is fitted with refurbished original 15 inch Speedline Lancia wheels and new tires.
This Evo was delivered from factory with the grey alcantara Recaro interior which is in an amazing state in line with the rest of the car. No damages or whatsoever on this alcantara! Plastic still attached to the rear doorcovers and doubt if anybody has ever used the rear seat. Overall the Evo’s interior is very well maintained with clean carpets, clean headliner and all plastics in good shape and without any damages or colour fading. All functions on dashboard and central board computer are working properly. The interior is fully standard with only a different shift-knob, a welcome improvement versus the standard shifter. This Evo 1 is fitted with A/C as factory option.
Extremely clean and well maintained example of an Evo 1 complete with original spare wheel and toolkit. A Sparco strut brace has been installed at the rear (as with the final edition) but can be removed.
In a nutshell, this Evo 1 drives magnificent and we have had many references through our own collection. Great handling and robust feel cornering and braking, something you would expect with a mileage of less than 82K kilometers but unfortunately not always the case. This Evo 1 is fitted with the ABS factory option. Gearbox and clutch very good in picking up the power. Very healthy oil and turbo pressure. No costs are spared with this Evo which is sold as a 2 owner car. Many sheets of maintenance are included. The last 3 services were conducted every 2 years at 73.163km, 77.788km and lastly 81.095km including belts (18 months ago). Mechanically you feel this car is really in a very good shape. The engine bay is very clean and kept more or less standard. Some of the standard hoses are replaced by qualitative silicone hoses, a stainless steel exhaust end piece and adjustable shocks are fitted to give the car a bit more meaner stance.
People experienced with Evo’s know how hard it is to find a good and standard example in the right colour combo and with a part of history…… well, we got another one…
